I cannot express how much I love Indianapolis. I live just five miles north of downtown and work right in the heart of Indianapolis. My professional career has given me many opportunities to travel, but I always come home thinking about how thankful I am to live in this great city.

Over the last 20 years, Indy has seen a tremendous amount of positive change. That change has recently ramped by us winning the 2012 Super Bowl, building Lucas Oil Stadium and the massive expansion of our convention center. One lesson learned from these recent changes: change is not cheap.
As I was recently enjoying the sights and sounds of a late summer day in Indy, I kept thinking about a recent article regarding the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association. This organization is responsible for promoting Indianapolis; however, the are stuck between a rock and a hard place or rather between the funding from the Capital Investment Board and a strained economy. We are growing this great city, but we need additional marketing to attract tourists, businesses and conventions.
An additional three million dollars was requested to market this city, but there is no additional funding available for the ICVA. I cannot shake how this feels so shortsighted.

It will not mean much if our long term plans are limited due to short term decisions. What's the point of more hotel rooms and convention space, if we cannot bring in the people to fill them?
I do applaud the ICVA for doing whatever they can to promote Indianapolis. ICVA is a current Compendium client, and they are leveraging our blogging software to attract people to this awesome city through organic search.
