Blogging Basics

Friday, March 6, 2009 by Jason Gergely
I don't claim to know a whole lot about blogging. I'm no Guru of the blogosphere... but I think I can confidently state that I have the basics down packed.

It didn't take me long to realize what the basics... So here is my knowledge on business blogging in bullet point form to keep it simple.
  • Google searches for three things: recent, frequent and relevent data to rank websites on organic search. Blogging meets all those needs.
  • Humanization - By adding a human element to your website, consumers can better connect with you and what you have to offer... that human element happens to be blogging.
  • Keep it simple - most people read at a 6th grade level, don't try to sound like you know everything and use big words
  • Keep it short - Writing lengthy posts can get overwhelming sometimes, especially if people reading them are pressed for time. Keep it short and to the point
  • Keywords - very important. When blogging for business, you need to keep a good balance of your keywords and everything else (that is what the keyword strength meter is for!)
  • Links - You need to put links in your post. They are like simple call to action points. Your reader will grow curious as to what they are and click on them and they will end up on your website!
So that is all... it is as easy as that. Just make sure you put a little bit of You in each post. That is the key! Humanizing your marketing only happens if you put your human element in it. So get out there... get blogging. If you really want to see some examples of some blogs with that human element.. check out Compendium's website and blogs!
