Writing The Perfect Post for Conversions

Thursday, March 26, 2009 by Douglas Karr
Increase Your Blog's ConversionsIn researching a client webinar we did today on driving more conversions through your business blog, I found that the blog post with the most conversion traffic on Compendium was one that Chris Baggott did, In tough times, you better be easy to find.

What is is about this blog post that makes it most compelling?

Here are some features that Chris incorporated into the blog post that helped it drive so much business:
  • Timely - with regard to the recession.
  • Relevant - the audience is prospective clients who are concerned with the economy and its impact on their business.
  • Strong image - this image really sums up the entire post, doesn't it?
  • Great description on the image - utilization of an image description to add a keyword rich description was great.
  • Great title - this title is compelling and definitely drew attention from the search engine results page (SERP).
  • Supporting data - Chris found and inserted supporting data.  In other words, he said, "Don't just listen to me..."
  • One idea - Chris clearly wrote about a single idea, not a long post with tons of different points.
  • Pithy - it's a great short post with plenty of whitespace for people to skim the contents.
  • Conversion Link - Chris even included a link directly in the post!
  • Variety of CTAs - Surrounding the post are a variety of calls to action that attract a variety of visitors.
  • Reward - one of the CTAs has a strong reward associated with it.
You can't get a better landing page strategy than this!

I didn't tell Chris, but his post even has a spelling error in it (tangible)... and it still performed incredibly well!

This post really speaks to how blogging is such a compelling solution for businesses... just get your word out there... unscripted, passionate, and honest... and business will follow.
