Stay out of the Doghouse with Viral Video

Friday, December 5, 2008 by Douglas Karr
JCPenney has, perhaps, one of the best directed viral campaigns I've ever seen on the Internet.  Surprisingly, I'd not heard of it before my father emailed the link to me.  Believe me, my Dad is not web savvy!  He heard about it from one of his friends.

The Doghouse web site is great!  It lacks one thing, though... search engine friendliness.  Try finding the site on the search engines and it's almost impossible, even if you search for "JCPenney + The Dog House"!  There are 3 weeks until Christmas and I'm just finding this video and passing it around?

It's a shame JCPenney did not accompany their web site with Doghouse blog where they actually wrote user-based submissions and added them to the site.  This would have been a great corporate blogging strategy.  That content would have provided all the momentum needed to get this site and this viral campaign to the top of the search engine results!

A fancy flash site and a viral campaign isn't anything unless it can be found.  Viral marketing campaigns directed as well as this should get fantastic results - if they are found and found early!  Stay out of The Doghouse and accompany every one of your viral video campaigns with a search engine strategy!
