Relevant, Frequent, Quality Content Wins

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 by Douglas Karr
I was speaking with Chris this morning and he questioned my last post about promoting your blog.  He thought I might of been stating that backlinks to your blog are more important that posting more content.

That's an interesting take and not what I meant.  I don't mean anyone should spend more time promoting than writing.  Writing frequent, relevant and quality content will always win!

As well, when you write frequent, relevant and quality content you continue to increase the likelihood that people will link back and referenct your blog.

My goal with my previous post is to simply speak to the opportunity of promoting your blog!  The majority of your blog's traffic will come by way of Search Engines, but linking to your blog through other mediums is a great way to spread the word within your network.

Thanks for the clarification Doug. :-) Content is the only thing you can legitimately control. I can hope for backlinks and ask for them, but I can't make them. Content on the other hand is entirely in your control. If you want to rank highly on a specific topic, being the one who talks the most about it will take you a long way.
