Hoosier Hospitality Conference

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 by Douglas Karr
Yesterday I spoke at the Hoosier Hospitality Conference here in Indiana on a blogging panel with Paula Werne, the Director of Public Relations for Holiday World, and Jeremy Williams of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development.

Hoosier Hospitality Conference

There were between 300 and 400 attendees to the event and the break-out had about 100 people in it.  The questions from the attendees were point-blank: Where do I find the content and the resources to blog?

I asked the question, "How many of you utilize email throughout the day?"

All hands raised.

I asked, "How many of you answer 20 emails per day?"

All hands raised.

I asked, "30 emails?"

Most hands raised.

I asked, "40 emails?"

About half the hands raised.

I told the audience... you folks are already writing a ton of content!  If you're writing 20 to 40 emails a day to your clients, prospects, employees, etc... you're writing a ton of content.

Unfortunately, with office emails you're only writing the response to a few people.  If you took a few moments and repurposed those email responses into blog posts about your business, you could be writing 5 posts a week.  That takes your email to one or two and makes it available to thousands of search results.

The hospitality industry may be the perfect blogging client... there's no shortage of attractions, events, services, conferences, restaurants, landmarks, museums, hotels, etc.  The list goes on and on.

Above all, these companies have the added benefit of being geographically based!  Local search is one of the most powerful online search engine marketing strategies right now.
