Multi-user blogging is a lot like group puzzle making.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 by mikey mioduski
Every person who's ever started a blog has probably had a brief lapse where they neglected the crap out of their blog. If you make a living as a professional blogger of hot new gossip, being an unreliable provider of juice might dent your traffic. And in turn, your income. Your return visitor rates probably mean a lot to you.

But if you are a contributor to your company's blog, and your contributions have been hard to make due to external factors, or sheer laziness, you're in a much better position. You see, it's never too late to pick back up where you left off, because when you empower your entire company to pitch into your business blog, you aren't relying on one person or one voice. You are actually casting a wider net with your entire team, and as a result, your visitors tend to be new to your blog-- having found you through search. So the return traffic isn't as important.

And if you're using a smart and easy multi-user blogging platform, like ours, your other team members can keep on posting until you find your piece again.

It reminds me of this incredible graphic I found yesterday for Clayton Stobbs, a Business Development Manager here at Compendium. The stock image showcases four business people carefully assembling a multi colored foam puzzle. It might not be exactly like group blogging, but what I'm getting at here is this: I'm sorry I haven't blogged in a while. But thank you to the Compendiumites who've kept it up.

group blogging is very similar to group puzzle making

Nice work team.

recording studios should blog

Thursday, April 30, 2009 by mikey mioduski
I just saw a link that a good friend of mine posted on facebook for the legendary recording studio he works at http://www.shangrilamalibu.com/ I think they just relaunched their new website. if you take a look through the site you will notice the place has some amazing history behind it... It was built to the exact specifications of Bob Dylan and The Band and hosted a huge spectrum of legendary artists ever since. Martin Scorsese used the studio in rehearsal and in his making of The Band's Last Waltz (which I just finally watched and can't believe i've lived 26 years without it).

First I want to congratulate my friend Mickey Midas for getting in at such an amazing studio. Second, i want to go out on a limb here and wager 10,000 brown m&m's that recording studios like Shangri-la probably have probably some of the coolest stories to tell... ever.  And, again, I may be a little biased, but I believe a blog is the best way to share these stories with people who really want to read them. And if these studios benefit at all from ranking higher in search, a multi-user platform blogging platform (like Compendium Blogware) is the perfect tool to solve get these stories out and traffic in.

Man I'm jealous. Do work Mike!

The Frustrating Apartment Searches of a College Graduate

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 by Jason Gergely
So I'm graduating from college here soon.......
Sweet....

After graduation I have to come up with some kind of place to find shelter. I considered the alternatives; a shack, a highway overpass, my parent's house.... none of which seemed like any fun to me.

So in my process in looking for an apartment, I thought to myself... "Man these reviews are great, but I wish that there was a firsthand thoughts and opinions of a few tenants that reside there now..." Then I realized that blogging applies here too!

I continued thinking... who would be contributing to these posts? Firstly, the owners and operators; next the staff that maintain the building, and finally.. people that actually live there. That way we can get a firsthand, candid, personal feeling on all aspects of the facility. By using a multi user blog software, apartment villages can really reach people searching on that human level that I was so feverishly looking for.

College kids can really relate to this because we are more of the techo-savvy people, looking to find that electronic first hand view of a product or service.

So if you are reading this and happen to have stock, or invest, or even work for an apartment village... start blogging!

And if you have a single bedroom apartment open... get a hold of me... my lease is running up soon!

Blogging for Traffic

Friday, April 3, 2009 by Jason Gergely
Ew.... Traffic

When we say the word traffic, everyone cringes. Rush hour, coming homefrom work when all you want to do is get home and relax on your couch and watch some TV until dinner time. When you get cut off by that big SUV, and your foot hurts from holding the brake, and you smell the exhaust.
Can you imagine? When you walk out that door at close of business, you are going to experience this thing we all call Traffic.... ugh.

However, the word traffic actually does have a positive side. This side of traffic deals with the number of visits to your website, where the higher the traffic... the better. This means your website is getting more and more exposure to consumers.

So you may be asking yourself.. this is all good and well, but what can I do to to increase this traffic thing?

The answer is simple... Blogging!

By blogging for traffic, you are satisfying everything that Google and other search engines are looking for; recent, frequent, and relevent data.

Imagine... you have your employees each have a blog on the multi user blog service that Compendium offers. Each of them puts up two or three posts a week during downtime they have during the workday (it only takes a few minutes).

By posting regularly, and often... you have satisfied two of the search criteria for Google. The third just has to be fulfilled with quality posts. Make sure they are writing about your company, including several keywords in each post.

Increasing your traffic is as easy as that! If you're interested, check out Compendium Blogware to start blogging for traffic!

Why Do People Blog?

Friday, March 20, 2009 by Jason Gergely
Why DO people blog?

Well I have found that there are many reasons. In bullet point form, these are some of the reasons that I have found why people blog.
  • For fun
  • To express themselves
  • It's theraputic
  • To tell funny stories
  • To share life experiences
  • and much, much more!
There are actually countless reasons to blog. However, most of my exposure to blogging is actually blogging for business. When a company sets up a multi user blog software, they ask a few of their employees to contribute by writing up and the reason that they write these posts is to reach people through search and to humanize their marketing.

By blogging for search your company can utilize search engines, reach those people that are searching for you, and have more loyal and better quality customers. So instead of thinking of blogging as just a fad, or things that techno geeks do... think of it as a tool. A tool to help you utilize all your marketing efforts and build more leads that are searching for your product or service as much as you are searching for them.

Who is a Company Blogger?

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 by Jason Gergely
If you are wonding what kind of person it takes to contribute to your blog, here is some insight...

ANYONE!!!

That is right... any one can write up posts for your blogging efforts. If you are a smaller company, you might consider allowing all of your employees to contribute. The reason is simply the more the marrier. If you have all of your employees blogging, you are increasing your frequency of your blogs and you are getting insight from all over the business.

If you are a large corporate company, you can also ask everyone to blog. However, that is really unlikely that everyone will want to contribute. You can just ask them to or make it part of their daily routine to blog away.

Now to get them to blog.. that is a different story. Some effective ways that have worked at Compendium is providing them with gifts. Some of these might consist of small give-aways, or little prizes, or free lunch from the boss. Anything that you can think of to get them to write. You have this multi user blog software and you have to use it.. right? So make them want to help out you and your company.

If you are looking for more information, go to Compendium Blogware's website. Good Luck!

It's a Draft.... Who will be YOUR Company Bloggers??

Friday, February 6, 2009 by Jason Gergely
Yes.... you read the title right...

You can have a draft to pick your bloggers. In fact, you can use any means to pick the employees that will contribute.
  • Ask them to do it - you can just intigrate blogging into your employee's daily working schedule
  • Ask for volunteers - You'll find that some of your employees are bloggers already, why not let them talk about their job?
  • Make them do it - obviously this is the most malicious way to go about making sure blogging is being done.
I'm not really saying any one of these ways is best, but you will find that your employees will probably be more than willing to contribute every now and then. Another thing to keep in mind is the more the better. The reason that I say this is that if you have two people putting up two posts a week, that is only 8 posts a month. If you have all your employees blogging a few times a week, can you imagine the content that YOUR employees are putting up?!? Your employees are intelligent people, that like to talk about their job. Let them...

Compendium Blogware offers a Multi user blog software that can allow any and all your employees to blog and contribute to your marketing efforts.

Multi User Blog Software

Tuesday, February 3, 2009 by Jason Gergely
I have talked about this Multi User Blog Software, but I haven't really explained what it is.

So what a Multi User Blog Software does is exactly what it sounds like. You have more than one person writing up posts to contribute to the overall company blog. You can only have one user, but it wouldn't be recommended. The reason that you should have more than one user is that the more content you create, the more effective your overall is. These employees posting are putting up great content on a regular basis, using your keywords that people are using in their searches. All this together will improve your ranking on google searches because you are supplying everything Google looks for in a search; frequency, recency, and relevency.

So if you are looking for a multi user blog platform that is effective in Google Searches, you don't need to look any further. Check out Compendium's website, read some of the employee blogs, get more information and sign up.

Another great commercial

Tuesday, February 3, 2009 by Brian Millis
I can't get enough of these microsoft commercials. They keep mentioning high profile companies, this time Quick Silver, who value the opinion of their customer base and stress the need to move quickly and stay in tune to this everchanging information.  Check it out here:

"you have to do things at the speed of light these days to stay on top."

What a great quote!  Here at Compendium, I continuously have great converations regarding how a corporate blog strategy can garner this tsunami of information about a company or brand.  Our platform offers a safe and measurable way to communicate to a customer base and stay on top.  Usually, the person on the other end of the phone loves what we've covered and how our multi-user blog software could help their business start a great new marketing strategy.  What shocks me is the reluctance to move forward on this type of decision quickly once we establish great value in a partnership.

It's always refreshing to talk with decision makers who are moving at the speed of light to keep their company ahead of the curve and truly listen to their market.  An organization that chooses not to participate in social media takes upon all the inherent risks associated with this freedom, yet forsakes the tremendous amount of benefits that can be gained by listening and participating.

Blog For Your Business

Friday, January 30, 2009 by Jason Gergely
We all know that business need some sort of advertising if you want to take your business to the next level, small or ginormous. We also know that these budgets can be very pricy as well.

By using a blog for your business, you can increase your search ranking and increase your likelihood of being found in organic searches. Not only are you increasing the chance of being found, you are decreasing your advertising expenses if you realocate your budget to include blogging.

Affordable Blogging Software

Thursday, January 22, 2009 by Jason Gergely
So you are spending all this money on advertising with radio ads, commercial spots, and mailings, just to name a few. But have you ever thought about blogging? Sure radio ads, commercial spots, and mailings are effective ways to reach your target market, but are you really reaching all the people that actually need your product or service? Well the answer is NO. Why are you spending money on advertising that is only reaching part of your target market? You need to start thinking about internet business blogging.

If you really want to reach anyone that is in need of your product or service, blogging would be the best way to go. By having a multi user blog you are increasing your Search Engine Optimization. What does this mean? It is your ranking in organic results on search engines such as Google. If you didn’t know, the majority of people use the internet for two things: E-mail and Search. By capitalizing on the search aspect of the internet, you are going to have more people visiting your site, and purchasing your product or service because of it. Furthermore, blogging is an affordable means of reaching those people that are actually in need of your product or service. No more wasted airtime or print outs for those people who have no interest in your company.

One to many. A new description

Thursday, January 22, 2009 by Brian Millis

I'm at my first networking event for Compendium with my boss and I'm feeling good about the day thus far.  Since we're well over an hour early, I figured I had more than enough time for a blog post.  As we checked in to the conference, my boss gave his first 11 second elevator pitch about what we do at Compendium.  I must say, it was a pretty good description.

The one thing that caught my attention was something he said about online traffic. This was something I have not used before in my many daily conversation about Compendium.  Companies build a blog page and then try to figure out ways to drive traffic to it.  Link building, ping backs, tagging, categorizing, ect.  Compendium's platform allows you to turn that direction around.  Build a multi user blog strategy focussed on SEO and bring the online traffic to your money making aspect of your business. Instead of a one-to-one ration of post to blog page, have a one-to-500 post to blog page"s".

This method frees a blogger to talk all about the varied facet of their organization without wasting time figuring out how to bring the people to it. With Compendium, this information will be organized based on key word to bring the search traffic to your business.  To me, that seems like such an obvious marketing benefit.  Every day, I learn a new way to describe the benefit of blogging on Compendium's corporate blog platform.

Franchise blogging

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 by Brian Millis

Today I had a meeting with a business that has over 200 franchises.  In my opinion, a franchise business model is perfect for a large scale multi user blog strategy.  Franchise owners, their employees, and their customers can all help create the content.  On Compendium's corporate blogging software, all this great content will be organized with no effort at all.  This is a large scale blog strategy focused at SEO.

The end result will be a more cohesive corporate message from franchise to franchise that can be found on all the important revenue driving search phrases. Owners and employees will feel like they have a real part in the conversation and can effectively reach consumers who are searching their product or service.  Encourage this traffic to buy online or get a coupon and bring it into the store.  Either way, business increases and the ROI is evident.  Compendium helps track this ROI and our platform with a system of support makes it easy.

Social media helps make history

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 by Brian Millis

As I sit here on my couch and watch the neighborhood ball for the new President, I'm struck with a sense of pride for working for Compendium Blogware.  You might wonder why.  Well, because I am part of social media.  I'm a part of a company that empowers businesses to connect to others online.  A corporate blog opens up a conversation and brings people together.  Even though my role is small, when I help set up a multi user blog platform and give a company a new voice and presence online, I am part of a greater social media.

How powerful can this be?  How can a strong message online make a difference? The Obama campaign is a perfect example.  During his thank you at the ball, he mentioned how this started in neighborhoods, and the message spread.  That viral spread can be largely attributed his campaigns understanding and respect of social media.  They used it to Obama's advantage and history was made.

This same theory can be applied to small business marketing or even an enterprise size internet business blog.  On the right platform, a cohesive marketing message can be viral within social media; building your business.  For companies who are not blogging, twitting, facebooking, myspacing, or linkedining, you are missing out on a tremendous tool.  Compendium can help you get started in this realm with a great blog that is easy to use and easy to manage.

great Microsoft Commercial

Saturday, January 17, 2009 by Brian Millis

I just saw this commercial on tv and couldn't help but think about how it relates to a great corporate blog.

What a genius tag line,Because it's everybody's business.  I think they are exactly right here.  Popular brands belong to the people who love them and use them every day.  A multi user blog platform like Compendium is exactly what these enterprise level companies need.  They could allow their employees to create great content about the brand, and yield all the comments from people who love and use that brand. This type of corporate blog would be the best "ear" for a company to listen to their consumer in order to make better marketing decisions.  I think that Kate Bayne should call me about setting her up with a slick Compendium Blog platform. She would get all the golden nuggets she would ever need.

Employee Bloggers and Trust: A Ski Vacation Story

Tuesday, January 6, 2009 by Chris Baggott
There has been a lot of talk about the Forrester report highlighting the horrific lack of trust in Corporate blogs.  To me, the key strategy for success outlined by the author Josh Bernoff was the use of employee bloggers....and lot's of them.

Employee Blogging Post
My case today focuses on an experience just two days ago skiing with the family in Colorado.  This was a spontaneous road trip based on access to a free house and the fact that Jimmo's (with beard) son and daughter were out there this winter. (I am actually blogging as we drive home through Kansas)

The weather was great and the snow was perfect.   Sunny and around 28 during the day.  But what made the difference between this being a really good trip and a fantastic experience was Alex.

Employee BloggerAlex here is a friend of Jimmo's son and happens to work as a Host at one of the big resorts.  Talk about your dream job...ski around all day and make sure everyone is safe and most importantly having a good time.   There are maybe hundreds of these folks in Summit County.   And this is just one position.  Vail by itself employees over 3500 people.

Through our hookup, we were able to ski all day with Alex on his day off.   Alex is smart, he's 24 and a graduate of a good school.  He's doing this because he loves it.   He loves the customers and he loves the resort.  He was able to show us places that were appropriate for the skill variances of our entire group...nooks and cranny's we never would have found on our own...He even took my 8 year old off for a while.  Why?  Because I TRUSTED him.

Vail blogs just like any other Corporation (at least Heavenly does)....self promoting PR.   Why not offer up the opportunity for all 3500 employees to get on multi user blog software and tell their stories?

That's how Corporate Blogging will gain trust...telling real stories from real people who love what they do.

There are over 10,000,000 monthly searches this time of year that Vail would want to rank highly on.  Post a couple hundred times a week with a variety of relevant stories and watch how many of those start coming their way...

And don't tell me Vail is different than your plumbing supply business or whatever.  Most all company employees are smart, they like their jobs and care about the customer.   Let them help you build trust.

P.S.  While you're at it, Vail has a great database.  They have my email and know exactly when and where I skiied.   What's stopping them from triggering an email to me next week asking me to tell them about my trip....maybe submit a picture or two...wouldn't that be trusted content?  You bet it would.  Vail skiis about 25,000 people a day.   That's 175,000 emails a week that could be triggered telling your customer you appreciate them...Does anyone doubt that Vail would get at least a couple of hundred usable stories a week to fill their blogs?  Imagine the benefit.

Seth's New Year's Advice....

Thursday, January 1, 2009 by Chris Baggott
Why am I so weak that it takes me 300 words to attempt to say what Seth says in one sentence:

"While the rest of your world huddles and holds back, here's a golden chance to use cheap media, available attention and great talent to make something that matters."

Multi User Blog Software is affordable (cheap), targeted search is how you get in front of available attention when they want to hear from you and your employees are the great talent that both Richard Edelman and Josh Bernoff of Forrester are telling business to leverage to create trusted content.

What could be simpler?  Embrace a Corporate Blogging Strategy as one of your primary 2009 resolutions.

Thanks for pointing out this quote Debbie Weil.

You work in a Reputation Economy

Tuesday, December 16, 2008 by Brian McKay
When you Blog to earn customers, it's important to understand that you become a voice for your company on the search engines.  When I work with clients, the question comes up, "Will anyone even read my Blog?"  The answer is a simple "yes."

The chart below is from Fast Company magazine and really tells the story about how Blogging for SEO can power any business to qualified leads online.  When implementing multi user Blog software you can add multiples to the amount of keyword rich content you can create.

Fast Company Graph
Note that TripAdvisor has 15 million reviews on it's site with 11 million or so visits, versus CitySearch that has only 600,000 reviews boasting over 30 milliion visits.  Blogging for SEO using a multi user blog software amplifies how much search you can win with your Blog posts.

Blogging to earn customers doesn't have to be intimidating.  It's a matter of doing what you do best working on a platform that organizes your content to win search.

Start a business Blog yesterday, and do it for the right reasons.  This is a reputation economy where everyone has an opinion about their experiences.  Shouldn't you have a voice in the conversation?
