Shorten it Up!

Thursday, February 5, 2009 by Meghan Manning
A common question that we always seem to get asked is; how long should my blog post be?

As a best practice the most appropiate and effective length for a blog post would be a couple of paragraphs.  Most people will read this and think they can't get their entire thought out in that length.  But you have to ask yourself, what kind of blog post would I want to read? Your answer is probably a short, to the point, couple of paragraphs.

When people are searching for quick informatoin on a topic, they don't want to take 15 minutes to read a blog post. This is a fast paced world where not everyone has the time to sit and read lengthy copy - they want to skim.

A great advantage you have when writing shorter posts is the ability to break up your ideas in different posts.  If you want to write about a complex subject that could turn out to be lengthy, think about presenting the idea in two or three posts.  This will not only help with providing fresh content but more people are likely to read your entire post when it's shorter.

Next time you write your blog post, think of the simplest and easiest way to present the information to your readers, they will thank you for it!
