Effective use of "white space"

Monday, July 13, 2009 by Sarah Sedberry
White Space - definition:
In page layout, white space is often referred to as negative space. It is that portion of a page left unmarked: the space between graphics, margins, or lines of type. (The term arises from graphic design practice, where printing processes generally use white paper)

When it comes to a blog post, we know that it is important to keep it pithy, to the point, and focused on one topic.  This allows a reader to quickly assess the information you are providing and move on to taking the next step with you (clicking on your call to action).  It is important to effectively use "white space", as it allows a reader to quickly glean that information.  White space can be created by one of the following ways:

  • Paragraph breaks
  • Numbered lists
  • Bulleted lists
  • Use of images

Your potential customers are using search engines to look for an answer to their problem.  Ensure that those individuals are seeing your company/services as the solution, by providing an answer in a quick and easy to assess format. When you provide this information on a frequent and regular basis you will see that Compendium's blog software will accelerate your online marketing efforts and organic search engine results.
