Are Your Bloggers Motivated?

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 by Jess Wehner
Compendium has an awesome contest coming up- have you heard about it?  Our Marketing department is giving away $1000 to the winner of a raffle drawing in December.  Raffle entries are created every time one of our bloggers posts a new entry.  There will be a drawing on December 18th and the winner will receive $500 for themselves and $500 for their blogging team (given to the admin).  The $500 for the blogging team can be used to motivate and encourage that team to blog throughout the year.

Contests are a great way to keep your team motivated.  As I blogged about earlier this month, our marketing department just sponsored a contest where the department with the most posts that month received a free lunch.  I don’t know the exact stats from that competition, but I do know that I posted more content than any other month I have been here.

Have you thought about doing a blogging contest to keep your bloggers motivated?  Don’t just rely on Compendium to keep your employees motivated.  As a marketer, the blog’s success is in your hands.  That means it’s your job to motivate bloggers to write!

Not sure what type of contest/incentive to have, try these ideas.  I included a cost to show you that motivating your employees can really be cheap, but the benefits are tremendous!

  1. Blogging Lunch- provide your bloggers lunch and make it mandatory to complete two blogs by the end of the lunch (cost= $5-10 per blogger)
  2. Blogger Competition- provide a prize to the blogger who gets the most posts up that month (cost= $25)
  3. Department Competition- provide lunch to a department that posts the most (this is a great way to get people who don’t normally blog to write content and send it to your bloggers) (cost= $5-10 per person in the department)
  4. Blogging Awards- have an awards ceremony and give prizes like “funnies post”, “best picture”, “top blogger”, “Highest Keyword Score”, etc. ($5 per award)
  5. And finally, jump on Compendium’s back- encourage people that they could win 500 big ones… just in time for Christmas! (free!)
