My local gym should be blogging.

Saturday, January 31, 2009 by Megan Glover
As I was leaving my local gym Peak Performance in Indianapolis this morning I realized the immense potential they have to attract new members via search through corporate blogging.

A quick keyword search on the Google AdWords tool resulted in over 2400 searches for "indianapolis gyms" and another couple thousand in other variations for December alone. That's a lot of people looking for a place to work out!

So, that got me thinking about what a gym has to blog about. And, there's a ton of rel event content such as:

1. Classes offered. i.e. Zumba, Pilates, Spinning, etc.

2. Member testimonials

3. Fitness and healthy living tips

4. Injury prevention and safety

5. Training workouts and advice

6. Coupons and Membership offers

And, this is just a short list.

Most importantly blogging is a great tool for gyms to stand out amongst a sea of other options. Particularly if you're a mom and pop establishment competing with larger and perhaps "posher" facilities.

Once again reiterating that people (over 2000 of them in Indianapolis) are searching for your establishment. And, what are you doing as a gym owner to be found? Blogs are great marketing tools for small businesses of any genre.
