Here's a great article from SEOmoz yesterday: Why Companies are Investing in SEO During the Economic Downturn.
My favorite part of the post is right here:
Search Traffic Will Be Relatively Unscathed by the Market
Sales might drop, conversion rates might falter a bit but raw search traffic isn't going anywhere. A recession doesn't mean that people stop searching the web, and with broadband adoption rates, Internet penetration and searches per users consistently rising, search is no fad - it's here for the long haul.
Now, call me biased, but given the profession I am in - working for a blogging software company in Indianapolis that is specifically focused on SEO - this is music to my ears.
As a marketer... it just makes sense to focus energies and marketing dollars online. Not only because that's where your prospects are heading, but also because online marketing is affordable and 100% traceable.
I know other marketers read this blog and so I'm curious - are you focusing more of your 2009 budget online? And, if so what areas are honing in on?
