On a more personal note, I originally hailed from the great state of Iowa prior to moving to Indiana.  Go Hawkeyes!  I love sports and working out, frequent laughs from The Office, traveling, and the new adventures that life always seems to bring.

Closing the Gap Between Company and Stakeholders

Thursday, November 19, 2009 by Amber Mohling
Posted earlier today was an interesting article by Kevin Moss entitled Blogging Really Can Enhance Corporate Sustainability.  In the article, he discusses the value of blogging to corporate responsibility.

This article got me thinking about the importance of companies not only using their blogs as a tool in stakeholder engagement but also using it as a tool in search marketing.... because you have to get people to find the blog before you can expect engagement to take place.

Compendium's blog software enables our clients to get found on a variety of keywords related to their business in organic search.  Next, as discussed in Kevin Moss's article, the company can further use the blog as a tool in stakeholder engagement & communication.

Google Software Engineer Discusses Rankings

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 by Amber Mohling
What's the main focus of your company's blog marketing program and search marketing program?

Recently Matt Cutts, a Google Sofware Engineer, posted a youtube video disucssing ranking, and he challenged companies that they should be more focused on converting better instead of getting obsessed with ranking.

In the Client Success department at Compendium, we do focus a lot of time on helping our clients receive great search results on numerous keywords related to their business.  However, we believe that the success of a blog program is looking at tangible ROI results, i.e. online leads developed and then ultimately conversion.

Indianapolis Gyms Need Blog Software... Part 2

Thursday, October 29, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In my previous post, I discussed my experiences of researching online to find possible gyms I could join in the Indianapolis area.  My frustration came when I wasn't finding relevant search results, and I was able to determine that these gyms probably aren't using effective SEO tools to help market themselves online.  My suggestion was that these gyms should use blog software.

Today, I continued my online research because I'm determined to find a gym with all the qualities I'm seeking out.  After digging and digging online, I finally found a gym that really interests me.  They even have a blog that discusses many of the qualities I'm looking for when google searching:  Indianapolis personal trainer, sport fitness training in Indianapolis, etc.  However, this gym was not present in the search engine results for any of these keyword phrases.

Compendium's blogging solution is different from all others out there and is helping our clients get found on numerous keywords related to their business... whether that be a gym, an ecommerce site, a brownie company, or anything inbetween.

Indianapolis Gyms Need Blog Software

Monday, October 26, 2009 by Amber Mohling
The last few days, I've been in desperate search to find a gym that I'd like to join.  Because I'm fairly new to the area, I started my research in the place I usually start all my research: the Internet.
Search Engine

I typed various keyword combinations into Google: best Indianapolis gym, personal training Indianapolis, fitness facility Indianapolis, etc.  However, few of the search results really seemed to match what I was looking for.  This does not mean a gym doesn't possess these qualities; it simply means that they are not marketing those qualities organically online so I can find them.

Simple blogging software can accomplish this... to enable a company to get found organically in search engines on numerous keyword phrases related to their business.

New Client's Success in Blogging for Search

Friday, October 23, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In the past week, I've had the opportunity to change roles at Compendium.  I moved from the marketing department into client success, and it's great to now have the opportunity to talk more in-depth with current clients.

In the past two days, I've had a couple conversations with Metrocrete, and I've loved hearing about the success the company is already seeing through Compendium's blogging solution.  Their blogs are already being indexed by the search engines and the company is currently seeing the results of moving up in organic search rankings.  Metrocrete started using Compendium's blog software less than 2 weeks ago!

SNL's Target Lady Needs a Lesson in Inbound Marketing Strategies

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 by Amber Mohling
If you've never seen the Target Lady SNL skit, check it out below (enjoy a good belly laugh) and then allow me to explain how this situation relates to search marketing.

The Target lady has a drastic business downfall... she yells the benefits of her products at the customers and scares them away.  For your marketing initiatives, instead of always yelling into your prospective clients' ears, why don't you allow for them to search for you online and pursue your business offerings?

Compendium's affordable blogging software allows for you to get found online organically in search by your potential clients.

Brett Favre is like blogging software...

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 by Amber Mohling
...Well maybe the title of relating Favre to a search marketing solution is a bit of a stretch, but let me explain.

From the ESPN article Yep, Favre Proved He Can Still Play described his play in the Green Bay vs. Vikings as:
"Wow, Favre sure looked good Monday night -- he proved emphatically that he can still play. That across-his-body throw for a touchdown at the Green Bay goal line was an athletic move that most recent first-round quarterbacks can't make. In addition to throwing the ball well, Favre spied the open man all night -- determining the correct receiver is the least-appreciated skill of great quarterbacks."

So what is Favre great at? Targeting the right receiver.

And what is blogging software great at?  Targeting your best business prospects.

Compendium's simple blogging software allows you to get found organically online on a variety of keywords related to your business.

Blogging for SEM - Overcoming the Cost of PPC

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Amber Mohling
Search marketing is one of the greatest ways for a business to get found on a variety of keywords related to their business.  However, Pay-Per-Click advertising can become very expensive and only yield minimal clicks compared to the clicks that take place on the organic side of search.

Many people I talk to everyday are searching for a way to get found organically, so they can overcome the cost and ineffectiveness of PPC.  Business blog software is the strategy a business can use to get found organically in search marketing.

The software also has an easy to use interface that supports multiple users in a company.  An administrative layer only allows for a post and comment to go live when the administrator approves the posts & comments.

Blogging for SEM - Overcoming the Obstacle of Tracking Success

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In my previous 2 posts of my blog, I discussed how businesses can overcome the obstacles of time and content generation in a blog marketing strategy.

A third obstacle I hear businesses talk about everyday is the belief that there is no way to track the success (read: ROI) of a blog.

However, Compendium possess the solution to this obstacle.  Online traffic, lead generation, and demand generation are all completely trackable through Compendium's blogging software.  Our clients measure Compendium on the ROI they yield, so our Client Success Team is always working on your company's side to help you yield the greatest ROI in search marketing.

Blogging for SEM - Overcoming the Obstacle of Content Generation

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In my previous blog post, I discussed the blogging obstacle of time.  Click here to check out the post.

In this post, I'd like to discuss another issue many companies feel they will encounter when blogging for search marketing...

"I don't have enough content to write about to even have a business blog."

The great thing about Compendium's business blog software is there are content idea suggestions to keep your post ideas flowing.  Plus, our blogging platform allows for multiple users to contribute content.  With this component, 2 to 100+ people can contribute content instead of holding just one person responsible for the content generation.

For additional online marketing ideas via blogging, check out this whitepaper: Considering Corporate Blogging

In addition, the Compendium website has additional information and case studies about how our current clients are tackling the obstacle of content generation in their search marketing strategy.

Blogging for SEM - Overcoming the Obstacle of Time

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Amber Mohling
How can I overcome the time issue associated with business blogging?

This is one of the main concerns I hear on a daily basis from companies looking for search marketing solutions.  When businesses sign on with blogging freeware, they must manage the IT and SEO side of blogging - i.e. downloads, tagging, categorizing, plug-ins, links, etc.  No wonder there is no time left to write content!

However, with Compendium's blog software, the heavy lifing is completed on our end, and the software is keyword optimized ready from the start.  The only thing your business needs to worry about is writing about what you know best: your business!

To see the success our clients are experiencing in search marketing in just minutes a day, check out some case studies at Compendium's website.

The Michael Scott Paper Company Needed Blog Marketing

Friday, September 4, 2009 by Amber Mohling
During this past season of The Office, Michael Scott left Dunder Mifflin to start up The Michael Scott Paper Company.  However, his  business really struggled to gain new clients and eventually Michael, Jan, and Ryan returned to their jobs at Dunder Mifflin.

Is there a marketing tool available that would have allowed them to gain enough business leads to keep the Michael Scott Paper Company alive?

The best tool for them would have been to use blog marketing, so they could have a strong presence in organic search engines.  With blog software, the presence in search engines on a variety of business relevant keywords generates leads/demand and ultimately will allow you to acquire new business.

Seinfeld Relates to Search Marketing

Friday, August 28, 2009 by Amber Mohling
Can Seinfeld really help explain the importance of online marketing strategies?  The answer is yes, but let me give some background first...

One of my favorite Seinfeld episodes is the one where Elaine wins a ticket for Mr. Pitt, so he can hold a string under a balloon at the Thanksgiving Day parade.  To collect the ticket, she must attend a big band event, and she walks away from the event with little-to-no hearing.  Jerry spends the rest of the night yelling ridiculous questions at her (i.e. will you marry me) but his efforts are useless because she can't hear him.

Do you feel like your marketing are similar to this at times -- you are practically yelling your benefits at companies but they just aren't grabbing onto the ideas?

Search marketing could be your easy street solution to get in front of the right eyes and ears who want to find out more info on your business offerings.  Hundreds of people are seraching online for your products and services... and using business blog software will help get you right in front of these people.

If you'd like to have an online marketing consultative conversation with me, send me an email so we can set up a time to talk in the near future - contact me at amohling@compendiumblogware.com

One-Up Your Competition Through Search Marketing

Thursday, August 27, 2009 by Amber Mohling
Have you ever talked to a person who is a "one-upper"... the person who always has to tell a story that's better than yours or explain how much better their vacation was than your vacation.

Case and point: Penelope from SNL.

Now take a minute to look at your business and your competition.  Are they always one-upping you in search marketing on the relevant keywords to your business?

Imagine the leads you would gain if your business was the first to appear on Google or Bing when potential clients where searching on those relevant keywords.  With the help of blog software, your business can easily become the one-upper in online marketing strategies.

To learn more about the importance of using business blogware software for your company's online marketing needs, visit the Compendium website and download a free whitepaper or case study.

The Importance of SEO and Search Marketing

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In my last blog post, I explained how excited I was to be running in the Chicago half marathon in a few weeks.  However, a few days after that post, I was experiencing foot pain, visited the podiatrist, and found out I have peroneal insertional tendonitis and plantar fasciitis.

Now with my background not being medical, I wanted to do some of my own research on these conditions.  My next step of action was very typical behavior... I jumped onto Google and typed in these keywords.  I found a medical website that was directly focused on what I was searching for.  Isn't this what we all want... To type in a few keywords in Google and have all the desired information delievered right at our fingertips.
This is directly applicable to your business and search marketing.  There are hundreds to thousands of keywords related to your business that people are searching on right now on Google and Bing.  Wouldn't you like to be the first organic result that pops up so you can tell that person that you're the answer to their question or the solution to their problem.

This task is very attainable through blog software.  Your business can cast a wide net organically across search engines and get found on numerous keywords related to your busienss.

If you'd like more information on business blog software, I'd like to suggest 2 easy options:
1. Download the whitepaper: Blogging's Role in SEO and Social Networking

Run the Race: Blogging for Search Marketing

Friday, August 21, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In a few weeks, I'll be running in my first half-marathon and during one of my runs this week, I was consistently reminded of how corporate blogging for search engine optimization is like my training schedule.

For running, I can't expect to be successful on race day by only running once a month.  The same is true of blogging for search marketing.  A company can't expect to be instantly successful in their online marketing strategies if only writing a post a month.  An extremely easy way to split up the responsibility of "running" the blog marketing race is to have multiple employees contribute to the effort.  Each employee can write a few posts per week and achieve great results in their search marketing strategy.

Why do Organic Searches Love Blogs?

Thursday, July 2, 2009 by Amber Mohling
In my previous post, I discussed how blog marketing can be used when a business desires search engine optimization.  However, have you ever wondered what factors affect search engine results?

The big factors that the search engine will use to rank the organic results include:
1. Title
2. Keyword-rich content
3. Frequency and recency
4. Blog volume
5. Relevance
6. Links

By using blog software to aide in successfully placing your company in the organic search results, a large audience of traffic will be more likely to view your company.  Increased traffic can lead to customer aquisition, additional engagement and conversation with clients, and increased business conversion.  All in all, search marketing can be a very powerful marketing vehicle.

To view additional information about how search marketing can impact your company and reach potential clients, take a moment to download free white papers or webinars from Compendium.
