I am so excited to be joining Compendium Blogware as the Business Development Manager. Business blogging is one of those things that is relatively easy to get the hang of, but can tackle a lot of the problems that both small and large businesses face!

So what types of problems can business blogging address? One of the major benefits of corporate blogging is improving search engine rankings.

Here is a easy search engine test: go type your company name into your favorite search engine...was your company the first to show up? Okay...so may be you passed this part of the test (or may be not...in which case you should really be listening to this); now try to typing in your business category (i.e. - Chicago Fitness Club) was your company one of the first listed? On the first page? Okay...I will stop with the questions; but the bottom line is that it is important to know where you currently rank, then try to improve on this.

Now, why is this search engine optimization is important? Where do people go when they want information or are looking for a business to use? SEARCH ENGINES. Understanding searcher behavior is vital to understand SEO; iProspect has done several studies on searcher behavior in the past few years. The bottom line of most of their research is people generally click within the first page of results, you have two options to get on this page: search engine optimization for organic search results or pay per click (PPC) results. PPC results obviously cost money, while organic search results are free and according to iProspect generally get the majority of the searcher clicks, which equates to more chances at conversion (and statistically MORE sales)...and if it is a business blog that the searcher finds you have the opportunity to use conversational marketing (which is another great benefit of corporate blogging).

It is no secret that search engines love blogs! If you want to read more about the relationship between blogging and SEO check out Compendium's Whitepaper, which gives a more detailed overview of why search engines love blogs.
