While driving from New Jersey to Indiana today (I don't recommend making the drive too many times...) I was listening to CNN on XM and heard about an interesting and great thing going on in the blogosphere tomorrow: Blog Action Day. Below is the promo video. There is a pretty impressive list of sponsors and involved blogs -- Google, Reddit, LifeHacker...all benefitting some great environmental charities and bringing some "going green" awareness to the estimated 12 million readers.
So what does this event have to do with your company blogging?
Well --- a few things; first, there is a great example of using a blog for a particular event --- see how Blog Action Day created this great Action Blog around a single event...this concept is easily transferred from a non-profit event to a product launch or new service your company has coming up. Next; the idea of blogging working with traditional media and PR. I didn't hear about this event from another blog, website or search engine --- I was simply listening to the radio. Not only did blogging in itself allow for media attention, but once I did hear of the event there was a place to go where there was a conversation surrounding the event (the previously mentioned Action Blog). Finally, is the IMPACT of this event..with a projected 12 million readers of the paricipating blogs the message is going to be heard tomorrow around the blogosphere (oh and don't worry...tomorrow I will talk about how blogging helps the environment).
