Who would want to blog in your company?

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 by Chris Baggott

According to a new study by office supply company Staples, 47% of employees see themselves as “Intrapreneurs”.    Huh?   Everyone is always telling me that their employees don’t care, but according to this study almost half of those surveyed describe themselves as entrepreneurs who operates within the corporate structure pursuing innovative projects.

Is this wishful thinking?  It shouldn’t be.   If I were an employer (oh, I am)  I’d be thrilled to know that my people actually want to make an inpact, they want to be a contributor and be on the front of innovative thinking.   What’s your response?  Do you crush these souls?

This is where embracing employee blogging can really have an impact.   Let people blog, give them a voice.

We have talked a lot about the benefits of Corporate Blogging for the business, but what about the well-being of the employee?   I heard a woman from Best Buy speak last year and she threw out a stat that they had 34% higher retention among their employee bloggers.   To Best Buy, I have to imagine this must translate into millions in savings, not to mention the tangible benefits of a fulfilled and motivated workforce...compounded by the trust given to the information and stories presented by these people.
