So I was fortunate to attend a session put on by Seth Godin yesterday. He made a statement that I thought really went along with the post yesterday about the strengths of local media companies like the Yellow Pages or Newspapers...Basically it came down to:
"Are you looking for customers for your products or products for your customers?"
When you are product focused, it clouds your judgment in that you are forced to do everything in your power to shove that product down the throats of prospects.
If you become customer focused, you realize that the biggest asset you have might be your trust and relationships.
Yesterday's post talked about how the Local Media companies are missing the boat by letting new competitors into their markets to target their local business advertisers. Why shouldn't a newspaper or the Yellow Pages be selling online marketing tools like easy to use blogging software to their business customers?
