Better Blogging

In light of our competition against ExactTarget these past couple months, I recommended 2 local companies duke it out via their blogs: Rics Software and Dyknow. The competition idea worked great for these companies because they are right next door to each other- allowing for a nice rivalry to build up.

Their admins did a nice job of getting everyone motivated through post updates and encouraging emails. Meghann, from Dyknow, copied me on this email and I was delighted to see the excitement she portrayed to her team:

"My Fellow Bloggers -

We have been challenged to a duel by RICS software in A Battle of the Blogs - Which blogging team can submit the most blog posts in a two week period?

The winning team will get to begin a cold February morning with a fabulous, warm breakfast. The losing team will have to serve the breakfast…wearing attire that signifies their pathetic defeat.

The individual who blogs the most will also receive a special prize.

Danielle from RICS and I will be keeping a tally of the posts. The Battle of the Blogs will begin Monday, January 26 and go through February 8. Winner will be announced February 9.

I really hate to lose and I know you do too. So, LET’S GO TEAM! "

If you are a blog administrator, make sure you are excited about your blogging program and you communicate that excitement to your bloggers. Sharing stats, content ideas, and having contests are all great ways to keep your bloggers motivated.

And I know what you're thinking- did this battle of the blogs work? Of course! Both teams had weeks where they contributed a record number of posts - and they both saw increases in search engine traffic because of it.
